Structure of a neuron
The neuron is a highly specialized cell responsible for the transmission of nerve impulses.
The soma or cell body is a structure like a star with hairs. Dendrites are formations that resemble hair. Nerve impulses are received by dendrites.
The axon, which is the nucleus’ tail, terminates in hair-like structures that form nerve endings. Relay nerve impulses are nerve ends.
The myelin coating protects the axon by acting as an insulator. Axons are insulated from external electrical impulses by this barrier.
A neuron’s job is to process information and send it from the brain to every area of the body.
