Water: A Precious Resource

Depletion of water means scarcity of water it means lack of water. Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available freshwater resources to meet water demand.

Groundwater recharge  is a hydrologic process, where water moves downward from surface water to groundwater.

Drip irrigation is a technique of watering plants by making use of narrow tubings which deliver water directly at the base of the plant.

Bawri was the traditional way of collecting water.

water harvesting is the activity of direct collection of rainwater. The rainwater collected and stored for direct use or can be recharged into the groundwater.

Rainwater harvesting  is the collection and storage of rain water , rather than allowing it to run off. Rainwater is collected from a roof-like surface and redirected to a tank, deep pit or a reservoir with percolation, so that it seeps down and restores the ground water.

The upper level of this layer is called the water table. an underground boundary between the soil surface and the area where groundwater saturates spaces between sediments and cracks in rock. Water pressure and atmospheric pressure are equal at this boundary.

The groundwater thus gets recharged by this process. At places the groundwater is stored between layers of hard rock below the water table. This is known as an aquifer

. The process of seeping of water into the ground is called infiltration.

The water cycle shows the continuous movement of water within the Earth and atmosphere. Liquid water evaporates into water vapour ( gas), condenses to form clouds, and precipitates back to earth in the form of rain ( liquid ) and snow ( solid).
