Free Fall
The falling of a body from a height towards the earth under gravitational force is called Free fall.
Such a body is called freely falling body.
When a body is under the influence of Gravitational force of earth only , then we say that body in under free fall. Practically it is possible under vacuum only as there is always some air resistance present.
The acceleration under free fall is called ‘acceleration due to gravity’ and denoted by “g”.
F = m x a
F = m x g Eq i
The shape of Earth is not perfect. The value of g increases at the poles relative to the equator as the earth’s radius increases from pole to equator.
