Solution :
In the process of layering, a section of an aerial stem develops roots while still connected to the parent plant and eventually separates to become a separate plant.
The process of asexual reproduction known as “vegetative reproduction” involves the vegetative portion of the parent plant giving birth to a new plant.
Definition :
Layering is a method where a plant’s branch is covered with some kind of material and given water to promote the growth of roots. Mound layering and aerial layering are the two methods used.
Mound layering
A plant’s lower branches may be bent downward till they come into contact with the ground. The component of the plant that can be broken off from the parent plant and grown wherever develops roots.
Example : Jasmine and grapevine .
Aerial layering
An aerial stem that has been girdled is kept moist and covered with polythene until it forms roots.
For example, orange, guava, litchi, etc.
