CH 12 SKELETON – MOVEMENT AND LOCOMOTION

The joints where very little movement occurs between the two bones.

In this type of joint, no movement is possible between the two bones.

There are three major categories of joints in the body: Immovable Partially movable Freely movable

The point at which two separate bones meet is called a joint.

There are two types of girdles:- Pectoral girdle Pelvic girdle

Girdles are the parts of the skeleton that help to articulate the limb bones to the main skeleton.

The hind limb has an additional bone called the patella.

The last two, the 11th and 12th pairs of ribs are not attached to the sternum and are known as floating ribs.

There are twelve pairs of ribs which along with the thoracic vertebrae and the sternum constitute the bony cage or rib cage.

The sternum is a long flat bone lying in the middle of the front part of the chest.
