Celsius, also called centigrade, scale based on 0° for the freezing point of water and 100° for the boiling point of water.

Longitudes are, therefore, imaginary circles that intersect the North and South Poles and the Equator. Half of a longitudinal circle is known as a Meridian. Meridians are perpendicular to every latitude. Unlike, latitudes, there is no obvious central longitude.

Each section from equator to pole is 90 degrees and two poles have 2 quarters of circle/globe hence 90X2 180 lattitudes. adding the Equator it becomes 181 latitudes. There are 360 longitudes in total +1 equator as we add 1 more in latitude and consider total number of latitudes are 181.

A prime meridian is the meridian (a line of longitude) in a geographic coordinate system at which longitude is defined to be 0°. Together, a prime meridian and its anti-meridian (the 180th meridian in a 360°-system) form a great circle. This great circle divides a spheroid into two hemispheres.

Lines of longitude, also called meridians, are imaginary lines that divide the Earth. They run north to south from pole to pole, but they measure the distance east or west. The prime meridian, which runs through Greenwich, England, has a longitude of 0 degrees.

 On the earth the circle of latitude is just the east-west circle that connects all the location with the given latitude. The position of the location along the circle of the latitude is given by its latitude. Circle of latitudes are called parallel because they run parallel to each other.

Latitude is the angle between the equatorial plane and the axis. Lines joining points of the same latitude are called parallels. There are 180° of latitudes and each degree of latitude spans around 111 kilometers or 69 miles or 60 Nautical miles. The 90° North and 90° South are not circles but only reference points.

Any location on earth can be referenced by a point with longitude and latitude coordinates. The lines that run east and west each have a constant latitude value and are called parallels. They are equidistant and parallel to one another, and form concentric circles around the earth.

A location’s position along a circle of latitude is given by its longitude. Circles of latitude are unlike circles of longitude, which are all great circles with the centre of Earth in the middle, as the circles of latitude get smaller as the distance from the Equator increases.
