INDIA’S NEIGHBOURS Across the sea to the south, lie our island neighbours— Sri Lanka and Maldives. Sri Lanka is separated from India by the Palk Strait.

Cutch, also spelled Kutch or Kachchh also historically known as Kingdom of Kutch, was a kingdom in the Kutch region from 1147 to 1819 and a princely state under British rule from 1819 to 1947. Its territories covered the present day Kutch region of Gujarat north of the Gulf of Kutch.

Gulf of Kutch: The Gulf of Kutch is an inlet of the Arabian Sea along the west coast of India in the state of Gujarat, which is renowned for extreme daily tides.

The Rann of Kachchh is famous for its white salty desert sand and is reputed to be the largest salt desert in the world.
