Volcanic gases react with the atmosphere in various ways; the conversion of sulfur dioxide (SO2) to sulfuric acid (H2SO4has the most significant impact on climate. Volcanoes can impact climate change.

Volcanoes are dangerous. They can kill people and damage property. Economic activity can suffer as it is hard for businesses to operate after an eruption. Habitats and landscapes are damaged by lava flows.

Ash’s abrasive particles can scratch the surface of the skin and eyes, causing discomfort and inflammation. If inhaled, volcanic ash can cause breathing problems and damage the lungs. Inhaling large amounts of ash and volcanic gases can cause a person to suffocate.
