Why are deserts cold at night?
Due to a lack of humidity in deserts, the air cannot hold the heat radiated by the sand, which gets heated during the sunny daytime hours. This causes the temperature of deserts to fall rapidly at night

The seasons in hot and dry deserts are usually very hot during the summer and warm during the rest of the year. During winter these deserts get little rainfall. Rain is often light, or in short concentrated bursts. Most of the time evaporation rates are faster than rainfall rates.
This is a zone of high air pressure where the air sinks. Air at the equator rises and cools – condensation then forms rain. The air then moves north and south until it gets to about 30° north and south of the equator, where it sinks. This air is dry and no condensation can form, so …
The terminology used to define deserts is complex. ‘True deserts’ where vegetation cover is exceedingly sparse, correspond to the ‘hyperarid regions of the earth, where rainfall is exceedingly rare and infrequent.
This is a great idea, but… We don’t own the Sahara desert. The Sahara is “owned” by Africans in at least 11 countries. Many of those countries are not exactly paragons of political stability (e.g. Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Tunisia)
The fascinating desert valley is situated on the eastern border of south-central California, in the northern Mojave Desert, and borders the Great Basin Desert. The area of Death Valley National covers 5,270 square miles (3.4 million acres), stretching into Nevada, and is the largest national park in the Lower 48.
More than 300 people live year-round in Death Valley, one of the hottest places on Earth.
The Great Basin Desert is the largest desert area of North America. It is also the most northerly, covering most of Nevada (Ne), the western third of Utah (U) and parts of Idaho (Id) and Oregon (Or).
Antarctica is a desert. It does not rain or snow a lot there. When it snows, the snow does not melt and builds up over many years to make large, thick sheets of ice, called ice sheets. Antarctica is made up of lots of ice in the form of glaciers, ice shelves and icebergs.
The Gobi Desert in Central Asia is one of the coldest deserts in the world. In winter, temperatures can drop to -40ºF (-40ºC.) Many scientists consider Antarctica to be a type of cold desert because it gets very little rain or snow.
