What are the 4 characteristics of a river?
characteristics, discharge, sediment transport, and the bed material.

Rivers carry the particles/ debris formed by weathering and deposit it at another place. The particles that rivers carry are stones, rocks, sand particles etc., which help in erosional process.
Winds erode the lower section of the rock more than the upper part. Therefore, such rocks have a narrower base and a wider top. When the wind blows, it lifts and transports sand from one place to another. When the wind stops blowing the sand falls and gets deposited in a low hill-like structure.
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases, a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water.
The erosional work of streams/rivers carves and shapes the landscape through which they flow. Load carried by a river will grind against its bed and sides. This process slowly wears the bed and sides away. When thrown against the sides and bed of rivers, the load gets broken into smaller pieces.
The work of a river is clearly visible in the upper course.
Answer. The volume of water in a river is at its greatest in the lower course. This is due to the contribution of water from tributaries. The river channel is deep and wide and the land around the river is flat.
This process slowly wears the bed and sides away. The work of rivers is erosion.

Erosion and transportation are the main activities of a river in the upper course. A river has a deep and narrow channel in this stage. Moreover, some of the rocks over which a river flows are very hard, while the others are soft. As a result of this, the river course is not smooth.
