24th AprilThe first National Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated in 2010. Since then, the National Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated on 24th April every year in India. The day marks the enactment of the 73rd amendment of the constitution in 1992.
Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) empowered to function as institutions of Self Government and to prepare plans for economic development and social justice and their empowerment. Panchayati Raj Institutions constitute the bedrock for the implementation of most of Rural Development Programmes.

The Zila Panchayat or District Development Council or Mandal Parishad or District Panchayat is the third tier of the Panchayati Raj system and functions at the district levels in all states. A Zila Parishad is an elected body.
