Why does it take some time to see objects in a dim room when you enter the room from bright sunshine outside?

When you enter a dark room from bright sunlight outside, it takes some time to see items since your pupil is smaller due to the increased intensity of light outside. The pupil enlarges to make objects visible when we enter a dimly lit space.
