Why do acids not show acidic behaviour in the absence of water?

Acids do not produce H+ ions in absence of water , thats why acids not show acidic behaviour in the absence of water.

Acids behave as acids , because hydrogen (H+) ions are present.

Water is definitely required for acids to show their acidic behaviour because hydrogen ions (H+)can only be formed there.
