The hormone progesterone is secreted by the corpus luteum( endocrine gland) of ovaries. Progesterone is responsible for the preparation of the endometrium during pregnancy.
Depending on whether the uterine lining wishes to accept the fertilized egg or not, this hormone causes a woman’s uterus to become thicker or smaller. This helps the body and prepares it for pregnancy.
Progesterone serves the following purposes while keeping this in mind:
(i) This hormone is responsible for developing endometrium during pregnancy.
(ii) Thickens the uterus lining to accept the ovum ( egg).
(iii) Contracts the muscles to reject the ovum ( egg) .
