Differentiate Binary and Multiple fission :–

Binary fission

i) Binary fission is the splitting or division of a cell into only two daughter cells.

ii) One nucleus divides into two nuclei.

 iii) It occurs under normal conditions.

iv) The division of cytoplasm forms two individuals.

v) Cytoplasm divides only after one karyokinesis or nuclear division.

vi) . Example: Amoeba.

Multiple fission

i) Multiple fission is the splitting or division of a parent cell into two or more daughter cells

ii) A single nucleus directly divides into multiple parts.

 iii) It takes place only in unfavorable conditions like formation of internal cysts.

iv) The division of cytoplasm directly forms multiple individuals.

v) Cytoplasm can divide only after many karyokinesis or nuclear divisions.

vi) Example: Plasmodium.
