Solution
Name two types of muscles which help in respiration
a) Intercostal muscles and
b) diaphragm muscles are responsible for respiration.
These intercostal muscles closest to the sternum contract during inhalation and raise the rib cage upward and outward to create more space for the lungs.
The diaphragm descends toward the stomach as it contracts. The cavity where the lungs are located becomes vacuum-like as a result. The lungs enlarge and draw air in by expanding in response to this vacuum. An uncontrollable act of breathing is performed in this way.
