Force

Normal

The push or pull on an object with mass causes it to change its velocity.

Force is an external agent capable of changing a body’s state of rest or motion. It has a magnitude and a direction. The direction towards which the force is applied is known as the direction of the force, and the application of force is the point where force is applied.

The Force can be measured using a spring balance.

S I unit of Force = kg m /s2 or , kg m s -2

=Newton(N).

C G S unit of Force = g cm /s2 or, g m s -2

= dyne ( dyn )

Force is a vector quantity. It has magnitude as well as directions.

.

What are the Effects of Force ?

The change in position with respect to time. In simpler words, motion refers to the movement of a body.

Motion can either be described as:

a) Change in speed
b) Change in direction
The Force has different effects, examples

Force can make a body that is at rest to move.
It can stop a moving body or slow it down.
It can accelerate the speed of a moving body.
It can also change the direction of a moving body along with its shape.

Formula for Force
The force is the vector product of mass (m) and acceleration (a).

( i) Force = mass x acceleration The equation or the formula for force can mathematically be expressed in the form of:

(i) F = m a

Where , F = force, m = mass , a = acceleration

Types of Force
Force is a physical cause that can change an object’s state of motion . There are two types of forces based on their applications:

Contact Force
Non-Contact Force

Contact Force

Forces that act on a body either directly or through a medium are called contact forces.

Examples of contact forces are:

Muscular Force
Mechanical Force
Frictional Force
We can complete the tasks using the muscular power of animals like bullocks, horses, and camels. Another type of contact force is frictional force, which acts between two surfaces in contact and tends to prevent one surface from moving over the other.

Non-Contact Force

Forces that act through spaces without making direct contact with the body are called non-contact forces.

Examples of non-contact forces are:

Gravitational Force
Electrostatic Force
Magnetic Force

Magnetic force is the force a magnet applies to other magnets. An object is affected by electrostatic and magnetic forces at a distance. They are non-contact forces because of this. Objects are attracted to the Earth by the force of gravity, which causes them to fall to the ground. The force that pulls the earth’s centre toward a body is called its weight.
